I am the first female in our family to hunt. Growing up I was always told "the men go hunting and the women go shopping." I hated that. I am not a shopper, unless it's thrift shopping, but it was frowned upon by the women in my family. I always remember it being a huge event for my father, brother, and grandfather growing up.
I met my now husband back in 2010, and he would take me out bow hunting with him. Of course, he would show off and sometimes make a fool of himself, but it was all fun. I finally thought, here's my chance. Not only would I start hunting, but it would be something I could do with my best friend.
I was able to take Hunter's Safety about two years later in the early spring, then set out for my first hunt that fall. I was actually pregnant with my third child, but that didn't stop me from shooting my first buck! So thankful my husband was there by my side to calm me down so I was able to shoot. My nerves still go crazy with excitement whenever I see a big buck! My grandfather, father and brother were also there to share this moment with me. My father still gets excited whenever I get a buck, but that day was something else. I have now been hunting for 11 years, gun and bow.
