Youth Hunt

My husband and I have been getting our kids into hunting. It's been such a joy being able to share this skill with them.

The boys have done the youth hunt for the last couple years with my husband. I took our youngest out in the  morning by ourselves,  for the first time. He shot his doe last year, so now it's bucks only for him. It felt great being able to guide him and give him my advice. We saw four does and one buck, but unfortunately,  he didnt get a shot at anything.

We went out again in the evening, with my husband. With only about 20 mins left of shooting time, we saw a group with a smaller buck come through in front of us. Our son was a little nervous, but did great! He shot once and the buck was down. All smiles from our little guy.

I was also able to go out with our middle son and my husband on their evening hunt also. We chose a different spot and the wind was crazy, but it was still so nice being out with them. It's too bad we didn't see anything, but our son will get another chance with us opening weekend.

Taking the kids hunting has been one of our ways of teaching them patience. With technology and the way the world has been changing so much, that is something that seems to be lacking nowadays. I know I am guilty of being impatient sometimes, but aren't we all. Another thing is just being in the moment. Having phones in our hands 24/7, and all the social media, is not helping. It's sad always seeing everyone looking down at their phones instead of taking in the beauty of everything. I actually deactivated most of my social media a month ago and it's been great. I want my kids to enjoy a life without it for as long as possible.
